Description

Martin Luther's revolt in 1517 triggers a process of dissolution of Christianity which has its most coherent expression in the sects of the sixteenth century.

From the Anabaptists to the Socinians, the underground world that germinates on Luther's left, contributes to unleashing a religious revolution that prefigures themes and motifs of the French Revolution.

The central problem, on which the others depend, is the ecclesiological one. In fact, the sects develop a new notion of faith, of the sacraments and of the authority of the Church, which shows surprising analogies with many currents of contemporary religious thought.
